    Time Event
    10:00p
    Human Again
Returned this afternoon from a weekend of camping. I have a love/hate relationship with camping. I love the outdoors, the trees, picking wildflowers and the peace and quiet. Oh, and let's not forget a good campfire with some toasted marshmallows.

But, being a bit spoiled, I don't like how dirty camping is. It's not the dirt itself that bothers me, but the germy-ness. Specifically, camp toilets. They call them "toilets", but really they're a pit with a toilet seat over them. Vile and disgusting stink holes. I was about ready to take my chances behind a tree. I did my best not to touch anything or to actually let my bottom touch the seat, but at some points it was unavoidable. Yes, I know...I am a big baby and spoiled by the comforts of the modern world. But you have to admit, those bathrooms are nasty.

But we are home now and the first place I dashed was to my shower. I scrubbed and shaved and plucked and exfoliated, and with a fresh-from-the-wash t-shirt I feel human again. :)

The weekend was good, however. It was a nice little camp site up Ephraim canyon called Lake Hills. It was extremely quiet and there were hardy any other people out there at all. We went with two of our good friends and their three kids. I had fun making beanie hats out of yarn with their two girls, and their four year old son was quite entertaining. He's one of those kids that say the darnest things, and it's just cute coming out of such a little person.

They were generous enough to let us sleep with them in their new tent trailer. Soooooo much better than a tent on the ground. We got a queen sized bed all to ourselves. The trailer slept seven of us quite comfortably. It was very nice.

Nick spent the entire weekend playing with fire. He was up early, got a fire going, and lovingly tended and nursed it all day long. He sat in his happy camp chair, methodically cutting up wood to keep his fire going. He didn't bring a book, he didn't go down to the lake, he didn't take any naps. He just sat by his fire until it was time for bed, periodically wandering around to collect more wood. I think it was extremely relaxing and almost hypnotic for him. He thoroughly enjoyed himself. And he was very cute sitting by his fire.

It was nice to get away and spend some time with our friends Shawn and Kathy. And now it's good to be home.
